Over the past
four years Broadland District Council, Norwich City Council
and South Norfolk Council have been working with Norfolk
County Council to develop a plan for the area. The Joint Core
Strategy forms part of the Local Development Framework for
each district and sets out policies which will ensure that
growth is well managed and that future demand for homes and
jobs is met in ways that are sustainable and do not detract
from the unique character of the
area.
Following its
submission to the Secretary of State in March 2010, the Joint
Core Strategy DPD was considered by
an independent Inspector and an Assistant Inspector as part of
a Public Examination, with hearings held between 9 November
and 9 December 2010. The Inspectors’ report was published on
25 February 2011 and concluded that the Joint Core Strategy
DPD was ‘sound’, subject to a limited number of required
changes.

At Council meetings held on 22 March 2011 Broadland
District Council, Norwich City Council and South Norfolk
Council each resolved to adopt the Joint Core
Strategy. The adopted Joint Core Strategy DPD and proposals maps
incorporate the binding recommendations of the
Inspectors. |

To ensure proper
delivery of the JCS over the coming years the councils of the
GNDP are exploring new ways of working together. New
working arrangements will be agreed this spring based on the
continued need to work closely across local authority
boundaries and to jointly administrate a shared investment
fund that will provide for the infrastructure that underpins
the JCS.
